Eyes Wide Open

Have you ever heard the saying “there’s more than meets the eye”? Perhaps your mom or your dad used to tell you to keep your eyes wide open. 2020 has been deemed the year of double vision and the year of clarity. So what exactly does this mean for you and me? What’s so great about this double vision and this clarity? I’m so glad you asked!
The saying “there’s more than meets the eye” implies that there is something to be seen that goes beyond what we see with our natural eye. There’s something hidden, there’s a mystery that is not easily visible. Now more than ever, we need to ask God to open our spiritual eyes so that we can see in the realm of the spirit. Jesus taught us to pray let it be on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). Therefore, we need to be able to see in the realm of the spirit in order to know how to pray for what is truly needed in the earth. For example, someone who is dealing with an addiction is dealing with a greater issue than just the addiction. When we ask God to open our spiritual eyes, he will allow us to see the root cause of the addiction and then we can effectively pray for that person. Not only will they become sober, but the root cause will be severed and they will be able to maintain their sobriety. Right now we are dealing with a global pandemic. The media tells us what they believe the public should hear, but the Holy Spirit can reveal to us the things that are going on behind the scenes, and provide us with the strategies to navigate through the various channels and to save lives.
Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs. — Isaiah 61:7 NKJV
1 Corinthians 2:9 says, but as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” As long as we are looking at things with our natural eye, we will not see all that God has prepared for us. 2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us to walk by faith and not by sight. Walking by faith is synonymous with having eyes wide opened. When we walk by faith, we are allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth. Despite what is going on in the world, it does not change what God has said to you about 2020. There is still a double portion for you in 2020. Where you need clarity, it is still available to you. Don’t get distracted by the disappointment and discouragement that has come by way of this pandemic. Remember, God’s grace is still available to you and for you. As you keep your eyes wide open by staying connected to the word and the Holy Spirit, you will see clearly the path to reach your destiny. God has a double portion ready for you. Seize the word, turn away from the naysayers, and walk into your double portion (Isaiah 61:7). So my challenge to you this week is to check your focus. What are you looking at? Where is your focus? If you find that you are more focused on what’s going on in the world than the creator of the world, you’ll miss what God is trying to show you. So get back in your word, spend more time in prayer and watch the eyes of your understanding be enlightened. Until next week…
Be blessed, but first comes obedience!
