Let's Go!

The other day I saw this statement “If you fuel your journey on the opinions of others, you are going to run out of gas”. This really started me to think about the different types of fuel and how if we don’t use the proper fuel, it can bring us to a complete halt.

According to dictionary.com here are the definitions of fuel:

1. combustible matter used to maintain fire, as coal, wood, oil, or gas, in order to create heat or power.

2. something that gives nourishment; food.

3. an energy source for engines, power plants, or reactors.

4. something that sustains or encourages; stimulant

Let’s see how these definitions can apply to our journey of faith. It’s a given that the opinions of others, especially the naysayers would not add any fire, or power that would encourage us to continue on our journey of faith. However, there is an opinion that if heard repeatedly will ignite a fire in us and cause our faith to grow. Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. In other words, the more we hear the word, the more our faith will increase.

The bible also tells us that man doesn’t just live on bread, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). Although natural food is necessary to keep us alive, we are only truly alive when we fuel our spirit with food of the word.

Fuel is a source of energy and the word is also our source of energy. Jesus said in John 6:63 that the words He speaks are spirit and life. The Holy Spirit lives on the inside of us and is our source of energy or fuel, because He only speaks to us what He hears from the Father (John 16:13).

Like fuel, the word sustains and encourages us. As we read the promises of God we can be like David and encourage ourselves (1 Samuel 30:6), and during those tough times when we’ve done all that we know to do we can be sustained by standing on the word (Ephesians 6:13).

So, what type of fuel are you using? Regular, super or premium? Are you regularly seeking the opinions of others instead of seeking God’s opinion? Or maybe you start off at super speed seeking God, but because you get impatient on your journey you start looking for validation from peers, social media and other sources. This week I challenge you to make God your premium choice. Let the fuel of His presence and His word ignite you in you that will cause you to soar on your journey of faith. If you’re looking for some fresh fire, I recommend picking up a copy of my new book Promise: God’s Assurance on The Cross for Our Crown. Now available at www.robinsmiley.com/shop.

Until next week…

Be blessed, but first comes obedience!
