Stay In Position

It’s the third quarter and your favorite team is down by six points with five minutes to go before the game ends. The coach has called a timeout and during the break has a provided a strategy to win the game. The key component of the strategy is that each team member must be in their proper position. One wrong move could cost them the game.

It’s September, the last month of the third quarter of 2020. For many, the thought of throwing in the towel on this year has become even more inviting. We’re six months into this pandemic, racial tension, economic downturn, deaths from family members to iconic celebrities are starting to take a toll. I must admit some days I’ve found myself getting weary. Thoughts of giving up on my dreams, slacking up in my prayer time and of even murmuring and complaining have entered my mind. However, I’m reminded that it is in my weakness, that God is made strong. So instead of yielding to the temptation to give up, I’ve made the decision to remain in position. If you’re like me and have started to grow weary, here’s a reminder of the positions in which we need to remain:

Watch, standfast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 NKJV

1. The position of faith. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that without faith it’s impossible to please God. Faith is now, it is present, and we have to stay in the presence of God to remain in faith. We must continue to hear the word to remain in faith, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).

2. The position of prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 reminds us to pray without ceasing. We should always be in the posture of prayer. God is looking for the intercessors. This is the time for the believers to remain in the position of the watchman and cry out to God in prayer. He says to call out to Him, and He will show us great and mighty things to come (Jeremiah 33:3). Just like that coach had the winning strategy for his team, our coach (God) will download His strategy to us during prayer. The Holy Spirit will even pray for us when we don’t know what to pray (Romans 8:26), and will then download the strategies He receives, from the Father.

3. The position of praise. As challenging as it may be, we need keep a praise in our heart and on our lips. The bible tells us that we are to do all things without murmuring and complaining (Philippians 2:14). When the enemy comes in like a flood, we are to raise the standard of praise against him. Praise is what brings the enemy to a halt (Psalm 8:2).

Your challenge for this week is to ask God what your position is, and when He reveals it to you stay there. Although things may get worse before they get better, as long as we remain in position, we will be covered by the blood and under the shadow of the most High God. Until next week…
