The Triple Threat

I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying that there’s power in numbers. I attended a bible study with Dr. Kimberly Ellison and her topic was “are you fully committed”? Her text came from 2 Chronicles 14-16, looking at the life of King Asa, and she broke down what is required to be fully committed, and God gave me the title “the triple threat” for this week’s blog. The triple threat deals with the three levels of faith that are required to be fully committed. Those levels are faith in God, faithful to God and faithfulness unto God. So walk this journey with me to see if you are fully committed.
Mark 11:22 tells us to have faith in God and Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it’s impossible to please God. As a believer, it should be our desire to please God so therefore we must have faith in God. Meaning that we believe who he is and what he says, even when what we see doesn’t line up with what he says (2 Corinthians 5:7). Let’s take this global pandemic. When we first got word of what was going on, many weren’t that disturbed by it because it was primarily happening in other countries, so we were at peace. When you’re at peace or everything is good in your world you don’t really need faith in God. However, once the virus crossed into the states, we saw an increase of people saying they had faith in God. Many believed that having faith in God meant that it was okay to not follow the guidelines, and as a result many people lost their lives. The increase of cases and the closer the virus got to our personal lives, really ignited a shift in our faith. We went from having faith in God to being faithful to God.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. — John 10:10 NKJV
This is what being faithful to God looks like. When faced with the triple threat of the enemy, which is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), not only do we believe who God is and what he says, but we become faithful to him by actually applying his word. We demonstrate that we are faithful when we immediately seek God in regards to the situation that is causing us to have faith in Him. For several weeks you couldn’t find a post or live that didn’t reference Psalm 91 or applying the blood of Jesus. Prayers were being prayed for wisdom, ministries were holding online prayer vigils. We were being faithful. When we have faith in God and when we are being faithful to God we are saying, God I trust you. I may not see a way out, but I trust you to lead and guide me through this situation. Our commitment level increases. We start spending more time in prayer, more time studying the bible, more time even sharing the gospel. The flame has been rekindled and we are now no longer lukewarm with complacency, but we are hot like an inferno. But are we truly fully committed? What will our lives look like when there’s finally a resolution or a solution to this pandemic?
As we study in 2 Chronicles about King Asa, we see that he started out having faith in God and he even moved into being faithful to God. He had entered into covenant with God and for 35 years he maintained that covenant with God (2 Chronicles 15:2, 12) . From the outside looking in one would say that he was operating in faithfulness, after all it had been 35 years. However, true faithfulness is when we unfailingly remain loyal to God. No matter what happens we are not moved from our position of faith. We remain in constant covenant with God. Unfortunately, like King Asa the distraction of fear comes in and we somehow forget about our covenant with God, and we enter into covenant with man. Instead of trusting God to provide our financial resources, we get ourselves into exorbitant amounts of debt. Instead of trusting that we heard God say he/she is not our spouse, we seek counsel from our friends and choose to listen to them, only later to discover that we settled for less than God’s best. Instead of trusting that promotion comes from God, we try to find out who’s on the interview panel and see how we can get an advantage in the interview process. God is asking us, in the midst of this pandemic “are you fully committed”? You’ll know if you’re fully committed when you find yourself doing what you said you would do long after the feelings have left you to do it. You’re fully committed when you choose to love first even when your spouse, children, coworkers are not being lovable. You’ll know that you’re fully committed when you’ve experienced tremendous “church hurt”, but yet you stay until God releases you. It’s time to be a triple threat to the enemy, instead of allowing him to be a triple threat to us. I challenge you this week, as I will be doing myself to really do a self-reflection to see if you’re fully committed. Until next week…
Be blessed but first comes obedience!
